Mobilise and sensitise communities to the resources, skills and opportunities within their environment, and to assist them in taking action necessary to improve their socio-economic circumstances.

Empower and develop communities through the implementation of integrated community building programmes to alleviate poverty, build social capital and generate social investment.
 


Our Objectives

In summary, the objectives of the Community Development Department in fulfilling its mandate are:-.
  1. To efficiently and effectively execute programmes geared towards developing skills within communities to greatly enhance:-
    • Use of Information Technology;
    • Enterprise Growth, Development and Management;
    • Social (Human/Family) Relations;
    • Risk reduction (Health and Safety Practices; Disaster management/preparedness)
  2. To facilitate cultural expression within communities, in order to expand Cultural industry and provide a catalyst for social empowerment and economic prosperity and development of The Arts
  3. To foster socially acceptable behaviour especially among youth through a wide variety of sporting activities, developing vital linkages across generations and communities and assisting in achieving higher levels of productivity.

Our Objectives (Continued)
  1. To efficiently and effectively manage resources:- (Community Centres; Human Resources and Financial Resources); keeping abreast of environmental changes; responding appropriately to needs for staff training, research and data collection/management; maintaining and upgrading Community Centres
  2. To provide technical and/or financial assistance to Community-based Organisations, NGO’s and Educational Institutions for the capacity strengthening of these organisations
  3. To network, collaborate and advocate appropriately with local, regional and international NGO’s, GBO’s and Civil Society in the interest of community empowerment and progress
